Thermal Transient of an Electric Actuator

Best Solution's customer needed information on the thermal performance of an electric actuator prior to prototyping. Both short term and continuous rating performance was modelled using a 3d finite element model.

One of the significant challenges here was knowing the thermal conductivity of the materials, and in particular the properties of enamelled copper wire bundles in laminated iron stacks. Best Solution used 2d modelling to establish these parameters, and calculate orthotropic properties for use in the 3d model.
