Engineering design consultants offering engineering analysis resource to the manufacturing, engineering and scientific sectors

AMS2 Physics Experiment

The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) is the second such particle physics experiment to be launched into space and will include the first large superconducting magnet system. The AMS experiment is designed to detect the presence of dark matter or antimatter in space.

The magnet system was manufactured by Scientific Magnetics, of Culham, Oxford, Best Solution’s customer. Scientific Magnetics found the additional analysis capacity that we were able to provide useful during the design phase of the magnet. Best Solution undertook finite element studies of coil peak flux density, coil system net dipole moment and quench force distribution.

“Best Solution can support engineers engaged in their own development programmes. We can provide advice and guidance on simulation technique, or more specific coaching on design methods for electromagnetic devices, materials, test and measurement.”
